National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

The first full week of November marks National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. I'm taking a break from NaNoWriMo to thank all those who help shelters make such a tremendous difference in the lives of the pets and their forever families.  Did you know that 63% of U.S. households have pets? Yet, fewer than 20% of them were adopted from shelters.

We can do so much better.

Pet adoption is very important to me. I've been very fortunate to have adopted the most precious fur children who have made my life all the more special. Because I am a foster failure, volunteering at a pet shelter is a bad option for me. However, I try to support my local shelters in other ways. Donations, freshly baked pet treats and cakes, purchases at charity shops like On Angels Wings and relentless adoptable pet matchmaking suggestions to family and friends (and the occasional stranger) are some ways I try to give back.
